Ways to deal with body aches
What causes body aches?
Body aches are just what they sound like- your body hurts. Aches and pains are common and are usually caused by muscle overuse. When you work out or do too much of a rigorous activity, your muscles may be sore for a few days. However, this type of muscle ache is limited to the muscles you used during the activity.
Like muscle overuse, there are several other causes of body aches which improve with care at home. Some of these include:
- Stress
- Lack of sleep
- Dehydration
- Deficiencies (Vitamin D, Calcium, Iron etc.)
- Minor sprains and strains
- Infections
Body aches and COVID-19
With the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, more and more people have been suffering from body aches. Body aches due to COVID-19 are believed to result from the effects of inflammatory molecules released by immune cells in response to the virus.
When unwell with COVID-19 people are less active than usual. This can cause aches and pains, stiffness and muscle weakness. Muscle weakness can lead to difficulties with activities such as standing, climbing stairs, gripping objects with your hands or lifting your arms above your head.
In addition, muscle pain is a common side effect that you may experience after receiving a COVID-19 vaccine. This is completely normal and is a sign that your body is working to build immunity.
